In 2007 Reinhard Margelisch founded the label VARGU.

The first VARGU collection was developed and produced in Delhi (India). Since the foundation of the brand we follow the 4 pillars of our corporate philosophy:

  • ecological responsibility

  • social responsibility

  • functional design

  • economic benefits throughout the value chain

We develop and produce products that demand sustainable action throughout the entire value chain. In doing so, we take responsibility in our actions and carefully examine the impact this has on people and the environment. All production materials are selected according to our criteria grid, so that only components are used that correspond to our expectations regarding this responsibility.

In the collection of tire tubes, we used old tire tubes as well as used seat belts from the auto industry and industrial tetron for the upper of the bag body. The tire hoses were hand-cleaned in the factory, hand-cut and prepared for the sewing process. Industrial tetron, as the name implies, finds its application in the industry. The tarpaulin is mainly used to cover machinery and dust-sensitive equipment.

The collection from upcycled tire tubes is available in the section SALES.

Since 2019 VARGU appears with a new design with technical innovations (the new VARGU face).

Due to the availability of advanced raw materials, the production site was relocated to China. All technically advanced production materials of the VARGU collection can thus be procured locally. With short procurement routes, we consciously insulate the generation of gray energy.

We deliberately chose a backpack lining made from recycled PET bottles. The backpack inner material needs about 60% of the total material surface of a backpack. The outer shell just about 40%. Accordingly, it was obvious to us in product development to focus the use of materials on the interior of the bag. Thus, we place the topic of sustainable production materials on the proportionately largest material consumer, the interior.

These include the following materials that meet the highest quality standards:

  • durable upper made of durable, waterproof polyester

  • high-quality zips (watertight zippers are used in exposed areas)

  • all nylon straps in the weave of car safety belts (min. tensile load 150 kg)

  • built-in external USB port for power bank with cable to the interior (waterproof attached)

  • reflective logo print for more safety on the road
